What is worth knowing about nubuck?

To understand this particular type of leather well, there are two classifications - grain leather and rough leather.

The full face is the upper, tanned part of the animal's skin, the structure of which is imperceptible to any hair, and its surface is smooth. Often, for a better visual effect and to give an additional, slight shine, they are waxed. This type of material is relatively easy to care for and more resistant to moisture.

Rough side - these are skins with distinct hairs and, when you run your finger over them, you can see clear, darker streaks. They are created by changing the direction of the bristles. It is rough leather that includes suede, nubuck and velor. They are more demanding to clean than grain leather and more susceptible to the harmful effects of moisture.

So what is nubuck?

It is a tanned, soft leather, finished on the side of the face after it has been polished. It is most often of bovine, veal or pork origin. Tanned with the chrome method. The raw material for nubuck can only be leather with slight damage to the grain.

So how do you judge whether the material your shoes are made of is nubuck or suede? You can tell these types of skin by looking at the length of their bristles. In the case of suede, it is longer and more visible. The material is also less dull than nubuck leather. In turn, nubuck is softer to the touch - all because of the shorter bristles that cover it. Some manufacturers put a thin layer of wax on the nubuck, which can be mistaken for grain leather.

How to care for nubuck products?

First and foremost, no dirt, such as dust, should be left on the nubuck leather shoes. If they become dry, it will be difficult to remove them, so this type of footwear should be combed with a soft-bristled brush. Rough leathers, such as suede and nubuck, are characterized by low resistance to soaking. They also require cleaning with agents designed exclusively for this type of leather. After removing stains, special preparations for nubuck leather should be used, but pastes and creams must not be used. Larger dirt can be removed with a slightly damp cloth, without the leather getting wet, as is the case with other types of leather. Salt stains formed during the use of footwear in winter conditions should be removed with specialist agents. The Europell Group brand offers both nubuck leathers and products for their care.

Nubuck or suede?

Nubuck, due to its unusual, delicate appearance, is considered the most noble type of leather, from which the most sophisticated haberdashery and footwear are made. Its preparation requires great care, which is why nubuck shoes are usually of high quality. On the other hand, it is associated with higher production costs, and hence - the fact that products made of this type of leather are usually more expensive. Therefore, if you are looking for a cheaper, but still solid solution, reach for shoes or suede accessories. The mentioned material has the advantage that it is less matte than nubuck, so it will be an interesting diversion in styling. Europell Group offers a wide selection of color variants for nubuck leather and other leather goods intended for fancy goods.
