How does the renovation of natural leather look like?

Before starting work, the maintenance technician must obtain information about the renovation service to determine which type of leather is suitable. In the case of furniture renovation, it depends on the type of furniture. If it is Chesterfield type furniture, then soft leather will work well, while in modern models, harder and thicker leather will be necessary.

Selection of leather for renovation

Which type of leather you should choose also depends on the use of a reputable item. If it will be used on a daily basis, a different type of leather will be useful than in the case of a decorative element covered with natural leather.

A wide range of colors, types and textures of leather makes it possible to find the perfect type for a given, renovated furniture or other object.

Natural leather, despite its exceptional durability, may deteriorate in the absence of maintenance and intensive use. However, it is possible to renovate elements made of natural leather. Here's what the process looks like step by step!

Leather storage and quality control

The ordered leather comes straight from Italian production. Once it arrives, unpack the shipment as soon as possible and prepare for storage. Often, the skin is folded inside out into the ankle during transport, which can lead to kinks or bends. It is a good idea to straighten out any creases and store the skins on appropriate stands.

The next step is to check the quality of the leather. It is a natural material of animal origin, so you can find scars from scratches, burns, bites and others on the fabrics. Natural leather is uneven, so it may be thinner or more wrinkled in some places.

First, check the top layer and look for holes, damage, or texture that will add to the appearance. Damages are marked with a special scratch for leather, thanks to which they will be clearly visible when the elements are cut out. The skin should also be stretched to find any damage. The places on the left side, which may have been damaged during tanning, as they may be damaged during use, should also be marked.

Thread selection and machine efficiency

Special threads for leather are very durable and resistant to many factors. Their thickness is marked with a number - the lower it is, the thicker the thread. Needles are also required and need to be changed after eight hours of use. The leather needle has no point, but a blade that cuts through the leather to pass lightly through it.

An important step is to check the machine if it staples correctly. This applies to verifying that the machine pulls the threads correctly, i.e. whether the upper and lower ones meet exactly in the center of the joined skins. The machine should be checked after each thread thickness change.
